The 13 arch stone road bridge was built in the 1800’s. This ninteenth century bridge was a viaduct and a way to connect 2 counties, Roscommon and Galway at the boarder village of Ballyforan. The bridge was biult to last, using iron tiebars and c-cutwaters which let the water flow through easily and reduce erosion. After 2 centries, the stone bridge at ballyforan is still in daily use as a main route between Athlone and Tuam.
